CORPORATE
PROFILE
Goodwill
Trading Co., Inc., better known as Goodwill Bookstore, is a 100%
Filipino-owned Company that is engaged in the retail, wholesale,
import, export, printing and publishing of local and foreign books,
magazines, stationery, novelties, greeting cards, and school /
office supplies.
Since
its humble beginnings in 1938, Goodwill Bookstore has prospered
to become one of the country’s biggest bookstores. Now with
five branches in Metro Manila and four provincial branches, it
serves Filipino readers by offering the widest array of books
and other quality reading materials from big foreign publishers
and from local publishers as well. It remains the top choice for
hard-to-find books, textbooks and reference books. It leads especially
in the field of medical literature. Goodwill Bookstore also caters
to the requirements of some 3,000 establishments all over the
country – from universities, libraries, department stores,
supermarkets, and even other bookstores.
Aside
from its successful retailing and wholesaling ventures, equally
notable is Goodwill Bookstore’s involvement in publishing
and distribution of both foreign and local-authored titles for
the past three decades. Now, with the government’s export
incentive program of targeting foreign markets, Goodwill’s
expansion in the sphere of international publishing is in the
offing. In collaboration with Goodwill-affiliated companies like
JMC Press, EDCA Publishing and Distributing Corporation and KATHA
Publishing Company, Goodwill has now penetrated the international
market by exporting locally-authored books and trade reference
materials.
To
keep up with the cyber-times, Goodwill Bookstore has gone online
– with a virtual bookstore that is open 24/7 on the World
Wide Web. Here, the growing number of Filipinos can log on to
www.goodwillbookstore.com where they can browse through book lists,
shop for the latest books or place for orders for upcoming titles.
But
Goodwill Bookstore is more than just a bookstore. It strives to
move ahead in expanding its service to its clients. It manages
to maintain the cherished core values of keeping customers satisfied
and treating its employees like family even as it breaks out of
the mold of tradition.
The
family truly remains the primary concern of Goodwill Bookstore.
It lends a hand to modern Filipino families by opening a modern
day-care center in its main store at the Glorietta 3 in Ayala
Center, Makati City. The Children’s Activity Center (CAC)
also offers tutorial services, taekwondo lessons, art lessons
and other learning activities in alliance with Sacred Heart School.
SHS-CAC Goodwill also has a studio where children’s ballet
and basic flamenco techniques for adults are offered through Goodwill’s
tie up with Steps Dance Studio.
For
all these efforts, Goodwill Bookstore takes pride in having been
a recipient of numerous awards in its field like the New Millennium
Excellence Award for Outstanding Bookstore Chain from the Consumer’s
Council, the Parangal ng Bayan Award in 1999, and the Outstanding
Bookstore Award from the Consumers Union of the Philippines during
the 12th and 13th Annual Consumers’ Awards, to mention a
few. Through its flagship store in Glorietta in Ayala Center –
Makati, Goodwill Bookstore has also garnered numerous awards in
various categories in the Marketing Excellence Awards of the Ayala
Center Merchant Rewards Program as well as special citations as
Ayala Center’s Marketing Partner for its continued support
to all Ayala Center’s major and specialty events, joint
advertising and loyalty building programs, specifically as an
Ayala Center Discount Plus Card Partner.
Indeed,
more than six decades had passed since the company’s late
patriarch, Manuel Cancio, put up his first bookstore with his
wife, Juana Tan-Cancio. Now under the dynamic leadership of his
daughter, Ma. Teresa Cancio-Suplico, Goodwill Bookstore looks
forward to continue providing efficient service to its customers
and to nurture Filipino minds with higher reading and with the
best of books.
